apt in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
apt
Notes on this component
apt is Debian's package manager command line, which downloads packages from repositories and installs them. It is only in a Yocto image when package management is turned on for the device, and then it fetches and verifies software over the network, so its signature and download handling are the attack surface. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is debian apt, so a lookup uses vendor debian and product apt.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:debian:apt:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
