abseil-cpp in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
abseil-cpp
Notes on this component
Abseil is Google's open-source collection of C++ library code (strings, containers, time, hashing and synchronisation) that other C++ projects such as gRPC and TensorFlow link against. A finding matters only when the application uses the affected part. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is abseil:common_libraries, a product name that is not the same as the recipe name abseil-cpp, so a lookup must use it as written.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:abseil:common_libraries:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
