wpa_supplicant in ESP-IDF firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
What it is
wpa_supplicant
Notes on this component
ESP-IDF vendors its own fork of wpa_supplicant directly in the tree (not a submodule), with no sbom.yml of its own, so esp-idf-sbom carries no identifier for it. Confirmed against ESP-IDF's real manifest for the fork (components/wpa_supplicant/sbom.yml) which carries exactly this CPE template, so this row is the fallback for a build where that file is missing or unread. No PURL: w1.fi publishes hostap/wpa_supplicant from its own cgit, not from a package host a PURL type covers.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
ESP-IDF records it from the component's own sbom.yml file, so what the SBOM says depends on what that file declares.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:w1.fi:wpa_supplicant:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: w1.fi.
