Newlib in ESP-IDF firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
What it is
Newlib
Notes on this component
ESP-IDF's C standard library, patched by Espressif. Older esp-idf-sbom output names the component `newlib` directly; current ESP-IDF (5.x) renamed the component to `esp_libc`, with the real identifier in a referenced sbom_newlibc.yml manifest (checked 2026-10-07: cpe:2.3:a:newlib_project:newlib) that is only read when that manifest is present. This row matches either component name as a fallback.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
ESP-IDF records it from the component's own sbom.yml file, so what the SBOM says depends on what that file declares.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:generic/sourceware/newlib@{version}cpe:2.3:a:newlib_project:newlib:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: newlib_project.
